Travel Bug

            Travelling has been one of my biggest goals in life, and so far I’ve only gone to three provinces and 4 states, which is more than some people but nowhere near enough for me. All I want to do is see the world and experience as much culture, diversity and variety of every continent and city. Pinterest has allowed me to see many different countries that I now want to travel to. With Pinterest I pinned one post about Venice Italy

and from that post it led me to another individuals board and showed me a million little places in Europe that people don’t know about like this cave in Portugal
 or it reminded me to go to the bridge in Germany where you put your lock on the bridge to resemble your ever lasting love and to get good luck.

            My board is full of different adventures and little hideaways that most people don’t know about and hopefully one day places that I’ll see in person. This board is not only full of posts of beautiful cities it’s full of dreams and expectations for not only me but also other people who look at my board. 

The Beginning of Pinterest

            My obsession with Pinterest first began back when I was in high school. My boyfriend at the time asked me to be his grad date, so I of course said yes. Being a girl all I could think about was finding the perfect dress because it would be my first fancy and fun dress that I had gotten to wear. The first thing I did was go online and search grad dresses. Of course there were actual websites for designer dresses, but I was looking for a bargain since I still had to save up money for my own grad dress the next year. Luckily I stumbled upon a website called Pinterest, which took me to a board designated to cheap grad date dresses. I had never heard of this site before and I had no clue as to how it worked.

            I made an account and navigated the website figuring out that it wasn’t just a dress website it had everything under the sun including clothes, jokes, dogs, vacation spots, and recipes. I started to make my own boards on my profile and was re-posting pins that I liked so everyone could see what I was interested in. By the end of the night I had sixteen boards about different things, and all I remember thinking was holy smokes I am in heaven.  

Writing Isn't the Same for Everyone

Writing is something each individual takes for granted. we can pull out a piece of paper and pen whenever we feel like it and go to town. Helen Kellar though couldn't do that, she had to use a type writer and even then it had to have brail on the keys. It's easy for us to forget how something so easy for us is actually quite challenging for someone like Helen Kellar.

We are able to reread, edit and adjust our papers and writing because we can see what we are doing unlike Helen Kellar. She would not know if she was going off the lines or miss spelling any of her words. Writing helps get all our emotions and feelings out and it can be very therapeutic for certain individuals. Helen Kellar on the other hand had to figure out which brail symbols to use for certain words which sometimes took a lot longer to figure out, so being able to start writing whenever we want without thinking is a lot harder for Helen Kellar and people like her to do.

Writing is much easier and enjoyable when you can see what you are doing and can edit your own thoughts. For Helen Kellar I believe the process of writing was very frustrating at times. Writing should be fun and enjoyed by all, even if there are a few hurdles some people have to jump over before they experience the fun of writing.

Secret Identities

            Anonymity gives people a boost of confidence that leads them to feel invincible and as though they can say and write whatever they feel, without considering the consequences. This sense of power leads individuals to bully, and discriminate against other people, since they know no one will figure out who they are. Anonymity frees us to say what we believe without fear of contradiction or retaliation making us braver to be our true selves. No one knows who is sitting behind the screen, so people feel as though they can say what’s on their minds without getting reprimanded for it. People say controversial things online because they feel safe in their own home, as compared to saying it in class where people can start screaming at them or even follow them and threaten them. Online you can have individuals post rude things on your blog but that’s not as intimidating as someone confronting you face-to- face.

            People use anonymity to say how they are truly feeling. A lot of individual’s friends and family influence them on their beliefs and values, but when they have different inputs on certain matters, they are afraid to voice their opinions. Anonymity online allows these people to speak freely, and without hesitation of what others will think of them. They can bare their soul because they know anonymity protects them. Forums for individuals to talk freely about their race, religion or anything in their lives are online. These sites help people get their feelings off their chests and allow them to speak freely without restrictions, or fear of others judging them. Traditions, ethnic background, and habits are a part of our identity, and they attribute to who we are. A lot of people can’t talk about their race and what comes with it, without having people judge them or misunderstanding what they are trying to say. Online anonymity gives them a platform to talk freely about their race, and beliefs. Anonymity shows who we really are, compared to face-to-face interaction, since individuals feel the need to hide parts of themselves until they know each other better. Reading Youtube comments on songs, such as Rebecca Black, Friday or any other comments online is not the best place to create lasting friendships with an individual. People are usually a lot harsher on these comments then what they are in real life. Using a blog to get initial information about someone would be the best way to learn the truth about others, since they are usually very truthful and honest because of the anonymity.

            Individuals haven’t realized though that the more they post about themselves anonymously, the more they’re sharing about themselves and losing their anonymity.

Perfume Bombs

           When people wear a butt load of perfume or cologne I want to punch them straight in the nose. Maybe then they will feel the same pain as me for having to smell their gross scents. Why do people feel the need to wear a full bottle of perfume or cologne each day? What happened to one or two squirts and you’re good to go? I obviously missed the memo where wearing an unhealthy amount of body spray was okay.

            The worst is when you walk into a classroom and all you can smell is one persons scent for the whole class because they are wearing so much, and it’s even worse when it’s a nasty flowery smelling perfume! Not everyone likes smelling like a walking flower or a spicy tree. Some people actually like to pay attention in class not pass out from how strong you smell. Having a headache for the rest of the day because of these people is not cool! Do not get me wrong I absolutely love colognes and perfumes, but I cannot stand when all you can smell is the one turd that poured the whole bottle over themselves. It’s not cool, and it’s just so distracting. FYI coating yourself with your perfumes does not cover up the smell of your cigarettes; it combines the two smells making the worst scent ever invented. Pick whether you want to smell like smoke, or cologne not both. You give every person you walk by a headache just from standing or walking close to them. Another thing that annoys me with wearing a ton of perfume is don’t your friends tell you that you smell like a walking perfume store? Or do you not notice how no one wants to stand or sit next to you in class? Maybe people just do not care or they do not realize how much they put on, but boy oh boy does it annoy me that I can’t even breathe clean air because of these people. It may seem petty and stupid that I’m ranting about people wearing too much perfume and cologne but its one of my biggest pet peeves. Especially when I have a weak stomach and getting trapped in a room with a perfume bomb makes me want to spew everywhere.   

            So to those kids who wear a ton of cologne or perfume, next time you put it on please remember people like to breath during class, not choke on your fragrances.

The Phantom Stealers

            Every party I went to during the first week before school started something was stolen from each house. Each party was the same, people mingling and chatting trying to make new friends and get to know one another before everyone went back into study mode. As the nights progressed things started to go missing, the first night it was almost five hats, I had individuals coming up to me asking if they had seen their snapbacks, and all I could say is that I hadn’t seen any. The next night it was a smaller party, everyone playing games, drinking and just having fun. I remember putting my drinks in the fridge and seeing no food, only a whole lot of beer and a block of cheese. That night when I left, the block of cheese was missing. The next day once again I was asked if I had seen someone take the cheese, but people are sneaky now a days so I didn’t see anyone leave with the cheese. The third night two things went missing; first it was sticky tab that holds up your posters on your walls, and second it was a poster of Honey Boo Boo, from one of the floors in residence. All of these stealing's happened in a span of three nights, making everyone who went to these parties suspicious of each other.

            You may be wondering how I know when these stealing’s occurred and why I know exactly what was stolen. It is because my roommates and I are the phantom stealers! Yes! We like to steal things when we go out, but don’t you worry we have returned our loot to the owners, and Honey Boo Boo is in her rightful place on the wall. As for the cheese, its expensive and we’re poor university kids, so buying new cheese hasn’t happened yet. So during the year if you hold a party, make sure you keep your cheese locked up and hats safely on your heads or they may be missing in the morning!
